Today there are two news items that almost - but not quite - cancel themselves out with irony. On the one hand it's the anniversary of the bombing of Nagasaki, while on the other Iran refuses to stop playing with its nuclear toys (and doesn't want to talk about it).
You'd think the UN would merely send the folks in Nagasaki to speak with the Iranians and try to persuade them to alter their course. I once went to a photo exhibit at the Ansel Adams Gallery in San Francisco that showed shots taken in the Nagasaki aftermath, and believe me it's not forgettable. Maybe it should be put it together again and ship that off, too.
Then closer to home we have more news and Paul Krugman's opinion regarding the housing bubble. Evidently this is will end more with a hiss than a bang, but we'll see. I take no satisfaction in being a Cassandra, but if interest rates keep rising while people desperate for homes keep taking out risky loans, I doubt if the result will be pretty. Cries of anguish may replace that hiss with a blast. I know a lot of people don't think the same way, but I'm not listening to them. They were the same ones telling me how great the market was, particularly Telco & dotcom.
Withholding the best for last, the same yahoos I mentioned before are at it again. This time they're saving our state while brandishing their true colors. Along with the Stars and Stripes they've got Dixie and Nazi flags a'wavin'.
I'm almost at a loss, but maybe we should send them to Iran.
